Here is quick recap of the past few weeks because it's 3am and I'm not in bed….
We had to work on the fourth of July so we had a pretty low key day and just had a BBQ and enjoyed some sparklers with some friends after work. Some of you might be wondering why we celebrated the fourth of July. Here are some reason why we did it.
+ Katelynn's mom is an American woman.
+ Jenna's birthday is the fourth of July.
+ We're living in Hawaii, one of the states of the united states.
So we tried to celebrate it anyway..
At the beginning of this week we made a goal to visit a new beach we haven’t been to yet each day. But before we get into sharing those with you, we should probably spill the news we were just given yesterday. Due to the economic situation the store is in our internship is being cut a little short and we will be returning home a few weeks sooner than planned. Receiving this information came as quite a shock and is bittersweet, but we are excited to continue making the most of our time left in paradise before returning home to our families and friends! Our last day working at Hawaii will now be August 31th rather then September 17th. We are going to stay a couple extra days on the Big Island and then fly to Oahu to spend a week with Katelynn's uncle before bringing this unforgettable journey to an end on September 10th.
Now back to the fun stuff :)
For our first beach of the week we chose Mauna Kea. It is a beautiful Hawaiian white sand beach with swimming-pool clear water. Before even getting in the ocean we decided we had found our new favorite spot. The high light of the day aside from having beach chairs right up to the shore was swimming with a turtle while snorkeling.
Wednesday instead of going to the traditional swimming beach we decided to be a little bit more adventurous and I (Shae) took Katelynn down to the end of the road to experience the amazing hike down to the black sand beach. Along the way we pulled off on a few shoreline access roads to see where they lead and we discovered an old railroad depot from 1930. This definitely a local hot spot because many people swimming and fishing from the cement platform. And I can understand why because the water was crystal clear and we could see many tropical fish swimming around.
My family came to visit us on the Island. I was so excited to see them back and to spend time with those amazing people. We picked them up at the airport. Unfortunately we couldn't take both free time so Katelynn had to go to work. We had so much fun exploring and i loved the feeling to show my family how i live, how i work and what we did here..
The Island felt like a home for me. How will i be able to leave this place again.
Hope to see you guys soon for another update,
Much love,
Shae & Katelynn
